Every year, the Global Performing Arts Alliance (GPAA) Competition brings together some of the most passionate young performers from across the UAE and beyond. It’s recognised as the UAE’s biggest Musical Theatre and Dance competition and Urdang International is proud to play a key role in its ongoing success.

For us, the GPAA Competition represents more than a performance opportunity, it is an extension of our mission to nurture, educate and inspire the next generation of performing artists across the region.

Urdang International and the GPAA: A Shared Vision

At Urdang International, we believe in creating pathways for young performers to access world-class training and industry experiences.
Our partnership with the Global Performing Arts Alliance allows us to bring that vision to life here in the UAE, offering students an authentic, professional environment that mirrors the standards of London’s West End.

Founded by Solange Urdang OBE, both Urdang International and the GPAA share a philosophy rooted in excellence, inclusivity, and opportunity. Through our collective work, we continue to connect global performing arts education with emerging local talent.

A Stage Like No Other

The GPAA Competition is a highlight of the performing arts calendar. It welcomes performers from diverse backgrounds to showcase their creativity across multiple disciplines including:

  • Musical Theatre Performance

  • Ballet and Contemporary Dance

  • Jazz and Commercial

  • Acting Through Song

The competition is open to individuals and groups, with entries judged by a panel of industry-leading professionals, including West End performers, directors, choreographers and casting specialists, many of whom collaborate with Urdang International through our masterclasses and training programmes.

Every performance is delivered in a professional theatre setting, replicating the demands and excitement of a live production. For many young participants, it’s their first experience of performing under full lights, sound and stage conditions are an invaluable part of their artistic development.

Learning Beyond the Performance

While competition is a key element, the GPAA event is fundamentally educational.
Participants receive detailed, constructive feedback from judges who focus on more than technical precision. They evaluate:

  • Stage presence and storytelling

  • Emotional connection

  • Performance technique and control

  • Originality and interpretation

This feedback provides meaningful insight into how students can refine their skills, preparing them for the rigorous standards expected at professional auditions and conservatories.

Urdang International actively supports this process, with our team on site offering encouragement, mentorship and guidance throughout the event. It’s a hands-on way for us to identify promising talent and help them continue their journey towards professional training.

A Launchpad for Aspiring Performers

Many of the students who participate in the GPAA Competition go on to train full-time at leading conservatoires in the UK including The Urdang Academy in London.

Through our Urdang International network, we’re able to offer continued development opportunities beyond the competition. These include:

  • Workshops and masterclasses led by current West End professionals

  • Private coaching and performance training through our partner schools

  • Scholarships and invitations to the GPAA Summer School 2026, where participants train intensively in singing, acting and dance

The competition often serves as the first step in this progression as a place where young artists can discover their potential and be seen by mentors who genuinely care about their growth.
