Formerly trained by her mother, Noeleen Ellis-Balshaw, at the Carlotta School in Blackburn, Lancashire, Carrie received tutoring in ISTD and BBO to Advanced level, competing in dance festivals until the age of 16.

Formerly trained by her mother, Noeleen Ellis-Balshaw, at the Carlotta School in Blackburn, Lancashire, Carrie received tutoring in ISTD and BBO to Advanced level, competing in dance festivals until the age of 16.

She later completed her training at Arts Educational School in London on the Musical Theatre course, while also obtaining a BA(Hons) degree in Theatre Studies from Rose Bruford College, along with further singing studies with teacher Alison Sutton. 

With more than 38 years in the performing arts sector, Carrie has graced the stages of London’s West End, participated in National UK Tours, Repertory Theatre, Television, Radio, Concerts, and Films. Throughout her career, she has consistently taught and choreographed. Some of her notable professional roles include Velma Kelly in 'Chicago', Carlotta in 'Phantom of the Opera', Peaches/Baby Jane in 'Jerry Springer the Opera', Jellylorum & Grizabella in 'Cats', Lady Jacqueline in 'Me and My Girl', Golde in 'Fiddler on The Roof', Lesley Pynchon in 'The Fix', Ida in 'Honk', Consuela in 'West Side Story', Val in 'Chorus Line', Lianne Dexhleman’s in 'Gigi', Mavis in 'Stepping Out', and Mrs. Molloy in ‘The Matchmaker’. 

She has also performed in numerous pantomimes, portraying principal boys, baddies, and fairies. Carrie has had the opportunity to perform in concerts across Britain, Europe, and on board the QE2. 

Her television credits include roles in 'Cutting It', 'Highly Sprung', 'Tonight at 8.30', 'Coronation Street', and 'Jerry Springer the Opera'. On radio, she has taken lead roles in 'Chorus Line', 'Follies', 'Sweet Charity', and 'Take It up the Octave'. 

Carrie has taught at prestigious colleges such as The Hammond (Musical Theatre tutor), Northern Ballet School (Musical Theatre tutor), LCPA (head of drama), LTS (audition technique and Musical Theatre tutor), Shockout Arts (head of musical theatre), Moorlands School (head of drama), Theatre Works (head of drama and Musical Theatre tutor), and Arts Educational (audition technique).

 She is also active as an adjudicator for Federation, All England, TDCI Championship, Miss Dance and The Dance World Cup. Carrie was honoured to be among the first judges for The Dance School Awards 2024 returning for the 2025 and 2026 event. Carrie is dedicated to sharing her passion and expertise in performing arts with her students, focusing her efforts on choreographing competition work, conducting master classes, honing audition techniques, directing shows, and teaching drama and musical theatre across various colleges throughout the country.
