The course offers students with the passion, tenacity and ambition to complete their first step to train to be a leading, high quality professional performer, teacher or creative. For those who want to pursue a career in what is one of the fastest growing global industries.
This full-time course is designed as a stepping stone for 16 to 18 year old students to study at a specialist three year vocational training course, conservatoire or university degree programme. Delivered by leading industry professionals, the course content commands a high level of talent in either singing, acting or dance. The course itself will give the student the opportunity to bring all three skill areas up to a competitive standard no matter what level the weaker areas are. We aim to nurture an all rounded performer who is prepared for auditions or application to their next stage of training or education.
The course has been designed by leading providers who have the experience in preparing students for the entertainment industry. All practical delivery takes place at Kent College Dubai and is overseen by Urdang Academy to ensure that students in Dubai receive a similar standard of world class delivery as the flagship colleges in London.
Where does it take place?
The BTEC will take place at Kent College Dubai and will be taught by Urdang and Kent College Performing Arts staff.
Kent College Dubai was established with the objective of providing the same high-quality education to families in Dubai as that offered by the founding school of Kent College Canterbury, while reflecting the local context and expectations of the UAE in a friendly community setting. Both schools promote tolerance and respect for others and aim to provide each pupil with an individual educational pathway that will fully prepare them for adult life. We offer large state-of-the-art facilities, small class sizes, a wide range of extra-curricular activities to complement our in-class learning.
The Performing Arts Department at Kent College has high end facilities that include two Drama studios, a Dance Studio, a recording studio, a Mac Suite, several music practice rooms and a state of the art auditorium that seats 500 people.
The course is staffed by extremely experienced teachers from both Kent College Dubai and Urdang Academy, London, who have worked in the industry and have experience and knowledge of getting students into Performing Arts Conservatoires.
The majority of time will be spent working on practical skills in studios. Alongside the plethora of these practical skill classes, the course is underpinned by relevant industry knowledge through a solid academic base. The student can achieve the equivalent of three A’ levels through the Extended BTEC Diploma. Alternatively, they can select to complete the smaller BTEC Diploma (equivalent of two A’ levels) and take another A’ level subject alongside the course. The course will give an insight into the different roles and transitional skills that can be gained with training in performing arts. It supports learning on how the industry works globally, how to promote yourself, entrepreneurial visions within arts and guide future training pathways.
The course is designed around 5 core modules over a two year period, equivalent to 3 A’ levels.
